Project Manager
Overview of the Role
Mitros is a leader in renewable energy, dedicated to driving sustainability through solar power. We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee utility-scale solar farm projects and large commercial solar installations from planning through commissioning. In this role, you will be accountable for end-to-end project execution – managing timelines, budgets, and resources – and coordinating a broad range of stakeholders to ensure each project’s success. Reporting directly to our co-founder (until a Director of Operations is onboarded), you’ll work cross-functionally with engineers, site supervisors, procurement teams, and subcontractors to deliver high-impact projects on time and within scope. This position has no direct people-management duties, but it requires strong leadership to guide diverse teams and ensure project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
-
Project Planning & Execution: Oversee all aspects of utility-scale solar farm and large commercial solar projects from initiation to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
-
Schedule & Budget Management: Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets. Manage and track project progress, adjusting plans as needed to meet milestones and financial targets.
-
Cross-Functional Coordination: Coordinate cross-functional teams – including engineers, site supervisors, procurement staff, and subcontractors – to align on project goals and deliverables. Ensure everyone understands their responsibilities and project timelines.
-
Stakeholder Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for all project stakeholders, including contractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies. Maintain clear communication and strong relationships to keep everyone informed and engaged.
-
Regulatory Compliance: Liaise with local authorities and regulatory agencies to obtain necessary permits and ensure full compliance with building codes, electrical standards, and environmental regulations throughout the project.
-
Risk & Issue Resolution: Proactively identify potential project risks or challenges and implement mitigation strategies. Troubleshoot issues promptly to keep projects on track and avoid delays.
-
Quality & Safety Assurance: Uphold high safety and quality standards on-site. Work with teams to enforce compliance with health, safety, and environmental guidelines, fostering a safety-first culture.
-
Reporting: Provide regular project updates and reports on progress, budget status, and risks to the co-founder (and eventually the Director of Operations). Ensure transparency and escalate issues with proposed solutions in a timely manner.
-
Leadership without Authority: Lead and motivate the project team through influence, not direct authority. Foster a collaborative, accountable environment where each contributor is driven to meet project objectives and uphold Mitros’s standards of excellence.
Required Qualifications
-
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
-
Project Management Experience: 5+ years of project management experience driving complex construction or infrastructure projects from start to finish. Proven track record of delivering projects on schedule and within budget, managing multiple moving parts effectively.
-
Industry Knowledge: Experience in renewable energy projects (solar PV installations strongly preferred) or large-scale construction project management. Familiarity with utility-scale solar farm development, electrical infrastructure, or civil construction is a major plus.
-
Regulatory & Contracting Insight: Working knowledge of construction management processes, contracts, and procurement. Understanding of permitting processes and local regulatory requirements for solar/construction projects (or the ability to quickly come up to speed) is advantageous.
-
Results Orientation: Demonstrated ability to coordinate diverse teams and resources to achieve project milestones. A hands-on approach to problem-solving and a drive to take ownership of project outcomes are essential.
Key Competencies and Skills
-
Project Management Certification: Project Management Professional (PMP), PRINCE2 certification, or equivalent is highly valued (strong evidence of formal project management training and expertise).
-
Leadership & Communication: Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills – able to coordinate and inspire teams through influence. Exceptional communication skills for effective stakeholder management, negotiation, and collaboration across all levels.
-
Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time-management abilities with a keen eye for detail. Capable of juggling priorities and maintaining focus on project goals in a fast-paced environment.
-
Problem-Solving: Analytical mindset and proactive problem-solving skills. Adept at anticipating obstacles, evaluating options, and implementing solutions under pressure.
-
Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project or similar scheduling tools) and the MS Office suite. Ability to utilize digital tools to track progress, document changes, and report metrics.
-
Safety & Compliance: Solid understanding of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards in construction/installation projects. Any safety training certifications or familiarity with site safety protocols (e.g., Safe Pass, OSHA, NEBOSH) are a plus.
-
Renewable Energy Savvy: Knowledge of solar PV systems and renewable energy technology is beneficial. While you don’t need to be an engineer, understanding the technical basics helps in making informed decisions and communicating effectively with technical teams.
