Installer

Overview of the Role

We’re looking for experienced solar roofers/installer-tradespeople to join the Mitros installation team. If you’ve worked on solar before or come from a strong roofing/carpentry background, this is a full-time, long-term role on payroll with room to grow. You’ll run full installs on Domestic, Commercial, and Agri sites nationwide, working as a tight in-house team alongside our electricians, roofers, and project managers from first panel to final sign-off.

Key Responsibilities

  • Solar PV Mechanical Installation: Set out arrays to drawings; locate rafters; install fixings, rails, and clamps; mount modules; apply correct torque settings; and seal penetrations to maintain watertightness and structural integrity across tile, slate, metal, and fibre-cement roofs.

  • DC Cabling and Pre-Wiring Support: Route, clip, and protect DC cabling; fit cable glands/roof entries; label strings; install isolator housings and supports. Hand over for terminations and commissioning to our electricians (you do not energise systems).

  • Site Organisation & Safety: Keep a tidy, safe site: set exclusion zones, manage housekeeping, protect client property, and maintain tool control. Use PPE and fall-arrest correctly; work safely on ladders, scaffolds, and MEWPs.

  • Compliance & QA Documentation: Follow Mitros method statements and manufacturer instructions; capture photo evidence; complete checklists; report and log snags/variations; close out punch lists to Mitros quality standards

  • Commissioning Support (Mechanical): Assist the REC electrical team during commissioning with mechanical verifications (array fastenings, labels, cable routing, polarity checks under supervision).

  • Maintenance and Call-Outs (Occasional): Attend mechanical call-outs (loose fixings, flashing repairs, cable management issues) and assist with upgrades or re-roof coordination

  • Team Collaboration & Mentoring: Coordinate sequence with roofers/electricians; plan wiring runs while panels are being mounted; support junior installers and share best practice

  • Customer Interaction: Be professional on-site; answer basic system questions; escalate technical queries to the PM/engineer; leave a clean, respectful finish.

  • Continuous Improvement: Keep up with new racking systems, fixings, and safe-work practices; participate in training; suggest on-the-ground improvements to methods and safety.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Solid experience in solar installation or roofing/carpentry (you know layouts, fixings, roof build-ups, and weatherproofing). 2–3+ years preferred.

  • Knowledge:  Mounting systems, torque specs, edge distances, flashing techniques, cable management, reading layout drawings. Awareness of electrical safety boundaries and LOTO coordination (electrical work by our REC team).

  • Certifications (or willingness to obtain promptly): Safe Pass, Working at Heights, Manual Handling. MEWP and Abrasive Wheels are a plus. PV installation training (e.g., SEAI/City & Guilds/NABCEP) is an advantage.

  • Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to various project sites. Many installations require travel within the region, and transporting tools/equipment as needed.

  • Physical Requirements: Capability to perform physically demanding tasks. This includes working on rooftops, climbing ladders, lifting solar panels or equipment (with safe techniques), and working outdoors in various weather conditions.

Key Competencies and Skills

  • Safety Consciousness at Height: Proactive hazard spotting; sets up safe access/anchors; uses fall protection correctly.

  • Quality and Detail: Dead-straight rail lines, consistent gaps, correct torque, tidy penetrations, labelled DC: done right first time.

  • Problem-Solving: Able to think on your feet when encountering unexpected site conditions or technical challenges. Adapts to awkward roof geometry, hidden rafters, and weather windows without cutting corners.

  • Teamwork & Communication: Clear updates to site supervisor/PM; smooth handoffs to electricians; helpful with juniors.

  • Reliability: Punctual, dependable, owns tasks to completion; understands deadline impacts on wider project phases.

  • Customer Focus: Respects property; clean finish; courteous interactions that reflect Mitros standards.

  • Enthusiasm for Renewable Energy: A genuine interest in solar power and green technology. Proud to be doing work that contributes to environmental sustainability. This mindset often reflects in the quality of work and the extra care given to each project, aligning with Mitros’s values.
